Sclerotherapy - Procedures

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment method used in the treatment of venectasia and reticulated veins (small, superficial venous dilatations, visible under the skin).

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a sterile sclerosing solution with a fine needle directly into the vein, producing a controlled inflammatory reaction that will close the vein. The vein will often become invisible or almost invisible, being resorbed by the body.

The procedure is performed either with the help of a Doppler ultrasound or with the help of a vein visualizer (veinlite).

If we want to have satisfactory results, several sessions are recommended, depending on the case of each patient.

The discomfort will be minimal, and the venous obliteration, that is, stopping the flow of blood and closing the vein will be a permanent one, as a rule. The pain felt during the foam sclerotherapy is of low or very low intensity, depending on the solution and its concentration.

The benefits of sclerotherapy

  • The method does not involve using a scalpel
  • The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis/ambulatory, and the effects are immediately visible
  • No general anesthesia
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Foam sclerotherapy is much more effective than traditional sclerotherapy, ensuring a better outcome for the patient.

Disadvantages of sclerotherapy

  • In the case of large networks of telangiectasias, more sclerotherapy sessions are required because it is not recommended to inject a large amount of sclerosing agent (foam) at once.
  • Minor itching in the area of sclerosing agent or photosensitivity

N.B. The general recommendations will be followed after the varicose vein cure!
